Sustainability

"We need to promote development that does not destroy our environment." - Wangari Maathai

Sustainability

We are committed to protecting our environment to ensure a sustainable future for our children and through continuous improvement we strive to be better tomorrow than we are today.
Each of our Centres actively participates in caring for our environment and promotes sustainable practices through educating and working with the children, families and wider community.
Learning about sustainability starts with everyday practice. Babies and toddlers can begin by watching adults model these behaviours. They may learn through song or rhyme as educators verbalise what they are doing. Children over three can begin to reason why practices are needed and to understand the impact that their actions have on the planet.
Our Children - are our futur and will be the caretakers of our environment. Sustainable practices are embedded in the children's daily routine and in their day-to-day activities.

Recycling and Reuse

We use recyclable materials where possible. We try to use sustainable materials such as wood for products such as furniture and toys instead of plastics and rubbers. We teach children to recycle paper and rubbish within their rooms, at home and in the wider community. We encourage recycling of cardboard, glass, paper and print cartridges.

Water Conservation

Rain water is collected and used were appropriate. We encourage children to turn the water off when they have finished washing their hands. We encourage children to use the half flush on their toilets. A water well outside teaches children that water can be pumped from under ground and used to water plants.

Energy Conservation

We talk with the children and about electricity and encourage them to turn off lights. All our centres have solar systems installed to minimise our carbon footprint. Our buildings use R4.0 insulation to maximise thermal insulation, requiring less energy to heat and cool. The insulation also aids in noise pollution to our surroundings.

Food Sustainability

Educating children and having them participate in "garden to plate" activities like seed sprouting, weeding, vegetable gardens and cooking amongst other activities. Also teaching children about wastage and food scraps including composte bins to use back in their gardens.

All our centres use the latest automation techniques to turn equipment off when not in use. All our centres use low power lighting and we produce more electricity than we use on avergae, exporting the overflow back onto the grid via solar panels.
